Parents

At West Middle School, we pride ourselves with the rigor of our curriculum and academic success of our students. At the same time, we recognize that there are many students who struggle through the middle years. Here are some practical tips for what to do when your child is having academic difficulties:

1 - Talk to your student. Find out what they are struggling with and what steps they have taken to get help.

2 - Talk with the teacher. Is your student struggling with tests, quizzes, homework completion, and/or behavior? Ask about opportunities for extra help with the teacher. Some teachers will arrange time to work with students during lunch or before/after school.

3 - Talk to your child's grade level counselor about academic help programs at WMS or see information below on A+ Tutoring and NJHS Homework Help.

4 - Monitor your student's progress regularly through the parent portal on the Tyler 360 app. Make sure your child is filling out their planner with daily homework assignments and check them for completion.

We are also fortunate to have two FREE programs available to students at West Middle School to offer academic help after school.
